Temple 'Purana' (History)

Sri Mukhya Prana Seva Trust welcomes you to the Garden City of India, Bangalore, which presents the most unique combination of lush green gardens in the midst of what can be termed as India’s own mini-Silicon valley, bustling with non-stop activity, day in and day out. As we get past the noise and traffic, we finally find ourselves in the NRI layout, Kalkere near Ramamurthynagar. The whole area is a picture of serenity, making it hard for us to believe that we are still in Bangalore!

As we look around, we are greeted by the most amazing scene: A beautiful golden ‘kalasam’ mounted on top of a “Puri Jagannath”-style temple tower meets our eye instantly. Drawn by its sheer elegance, we move towards the structure and find that we are in Sri Sundara Anjaneya Swamy temple located in the Veda Vyasa Purana Patasala Trust premises, founded by His Holiness Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji. As we approach the sanctum sanctorum, the gigantic yet beautiful form of Lord Sundara Anjaneya leaves us breathless. The majestic stature of the Lord and His indescribable beauty evokes joyful vibrations within us instantly. “How did the Lord choose this place as His abode and how did all this happen?” we are left wondering.

Once when Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji visited Bangalore, His holiness happened to visit the land accompanied by a few devotees from Bangalore. The devotees expressed their wish to have a patasala and temple constructed at that site. The moment they mentioned it, Sri Swamiji went into a deep meditative state for a while after which He said that the entire area was filled with Lord Anjaneya’s divine vibrations. Just as Sri Swamiji said that, the most amazing thing occurred! A cloud in the exact shape of Sri Anjaneya carrying the Sanjeevani Mountain had formed in the sky. The few fortunate devotees who witnessed this spectacle were thrilled and were speechless to say the least. From that moment on, there was no looking back as Sri Anjaneya had arrived! As if magically, the entire temple was constructed at that very spot in a very short span of time by the divine grace of Hanumanji and Sri Swamiji and the Kumbhabhishekham was performed on 25th April, 2008.

In Valmiki Ramayana, there are 7 kandams. The Kandam which primarily elaborates the vital kainkarya of Hanuman is named as Sundara Kandam and this Hanuman has also been named aptly by Sri Swamiji as “Sri Sundara Anjaneya”.
The Lord stands here as an embodiment of inexplicable beauty, willing to pour all His grace upon all those who have His darshan. The majestic form of the Lord seems to assure everyone who has His darshan that He will ever be with them from that moment onwards and that their lives will take a very positive turn from then on. The Lord is present here as his most vibrant self. All prayers made before Sri Sundara Anjaneya – form worldly to spiritual are fulfilled.
